Following the closure of the community centre Askatasuna (18 December) and the heavy militarisation of the whole neighborhood, people gathered to protest and ask the government to give the space back to the community. As people of Turin know, Askatasuna has been active for 30 years with activities for children, Italian lessons for immigrants, sports for teenagers, and hosting markets during Christmas seasons to help local shops. Closing Asaktasuma is generally seen as an attack to the lower classes and the marginalised commmunities who where most benefiting by the low prices of the activities organised.
